Layoffs Hit Glowmade Following Disappointing Game Launch

It has been reported that approximately a dozen Glowmade employees are facing job losses. According to Insider Gaming, internal documents reveal that the studio's game, King of Meat, fell significantly short of expectations upon its launch. Sources close to the matter claim that the game's developer had anticipated a minimum of 100,000 concurrent players on Steam, but it struggled to maintain even 1,000 players across all platforms, with a peak of just 320 players on SteamDB. As a result, the studio began discussing voluntary redundancies with staff earlier this month, impacting around a dozen employees. Glowmade, founded in 2015 by former Lionhead Studios developers, had partnered with Amazon Game Studios in 2021 as part of the latter's expansion into third-party game publishing. Amazon Games subsequently published King of Meat, which was released in October 2025. In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz last August, Amazon's EMEA publishing director, Jon Rosenblatt, discussed the company's gaming strategy, emphasizing the importance of creating diverse and high-quality games. Rosenblatt noted that King of Meat was an attractive opportunity for the company to collaborate with a talented team and help grow the game into something bigger than initially planned.
