Mobile Game Development Overlooked Due to Industry's Perception of Poor Quality and Aggressive Monetization

Midjiwan AB CEO, Christian Lövstedt, has written an open letter to the global gaming community, expressing concern that mobile game development is consistently being disregarded. Despite accounting for 55% of the global gaming market, mobile gaming is often viewed as inferior due to its perceived association with exploitative monetization strategies and subpar quality. This perception is reflected in the lack of recognition mobile games receive in award ceremonies, with few mobile games being nominated for prestigious awards. Lövstedt argues that the industry's failure to acknowledge the value of mobile gaming is shortsighted, as it is a platform that drives innovation and creativity. He emphasizes that the industry must reevaluate its priorities and start valuing mobile gaming as a vital part of the gaming ecosystem, rather than perpetuating a narrow definition of what constitutes 'real gaming'.
