Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Emerges as Xbox Game Pass's Top Third-Party Release of 2025

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has secured the top spot as the most successful third-party launch on Xbox Game Pass for the year. According to Xbox Wire, this achievement is measured by the number of unique users within the first 30 days of its availability. Sandfall Interactive's Creative Director, Guillaume Broche, credits Xbox's support for expanding the game's reach to a broader audience prior to its launch, attributing the day-one availability on Game Pass as a significant factor. Broche noted, 'The turn-based RPG genre, while having a dedicated fan base, can sometimes deter those who prefer real-time action games, but Game Pass effectively lowered this barrier to entry, allowing curious players to try the game and experience its offerings.' He further explained, 'Many players could start the game, explore its world, and discover the enjoyable aspects, even if they hadn't initially expected to.' ID@Xbox Director Guy Richards praised Sandfall's ambition from the outset, stating, 'Their early builds showcased a gripping narrative, stunning visuals, and a unique blend of JRPG mechanics with French cultural themes, making for an experience we believed Xbox players would appreciate.' As of October 8, Clair Obscur has reached a significant milestone of five million units sold worldwide, with 3.3 million sales achieved just 33 days post-launch. The game's success was previously discussed with Sandfall Interactive and Kepler in May, and it has since been nominated for 12 awards across ten categories at The Game Awards, winning six accolades at the Golden Joystick Awards, including Sandfall being named Studio of the Year.
