Acclaimed Director of Shōgun and Fallout Joins Amazon's God of War Series
Frederick E.O. Toye, an Emmy-winning director, is set to contribute to Amazon's adaptation of God of War. According to Deadline, Toye will direct the first two episodes of the series. His notable works include directing episodes of Fallout, The Boys, and The Terminal List, all of which are Amazon series. Toye's Emmy win was for his work on the FX historical drama series Shōgun, where he directed four episodes. His directing credits also extend to episodes of Lost, American Gods, The Walking Dead, Watchmen, Westworld, and Snowpiercer. Toye will be working alongside showrunner Ronald D. Moore, who is also the writer and executive producer. Moore joined the project last October, following the departure of the original showrunner Rafe Judkins and producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus. The pre-production of Amazon's God of War adaptation is currently underway in Vancouver, with plans for a two-season run. The series will be co-produced by Sony Pictures Television, Amazon MGM Studios, PlayStation Productions, and Moore's Tall Ship Productions. The announcement of Amazon's God of War series was initially made by Sony Pictures Entertainment in 2022, alongside a Gran Turismo film by Columbia Pictures and a Horizon series on Netflix. The Gran Turismo film was released in 2023, while the Horizon series was reportedly canceled due to allegations against its showrunner. Recently, Sony announced that the Horizon project would be transformed into a film, produced by Columbia Pictures in partnership with PlayStation Productions. Additionally, an adaptation of Helldivers 2 was announced, with Fast and Furious director Justin Lin set to direct the movie. Lin will also produce the adaptation, with Gary Dauberman, known for It and Annabelle, on board to write the script.
