Nintendo Announces Acquisition of Bandai Namco Studios Singapore

Nintendo, the renowned Japanese gaming platform holder, has announced plans to acquire a majority stake in Bandai Namco Studios Singapore. The agreement, slated for completion on April 1st, 2026, will see Nintendo purchase 80% of the developer's shares, with the remaining shares to be acquired at a later date. Following the acquisition, Bandai Namco Studios Singapore will be rebranded as Nintendo Studios Singapore, becoming a subsidiary of the Mario giant. Established in 2013, the studio has worked on several notable titles, including Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown, Soul Calibur 6, and Tekken 7 and 8, as well as providing development support for Splatoon 3. The studio's recent release, Hirogami, was co-developed with Bandai Namco Studios Malaysia. According to Nintendo, the acquisition is aimed at strengthening the company's development structure, given Bandai Namco Studios Singapore's strong expertise in creating in-game art assets and its existing business relationship with Nintendo. This move follows Nintendo's recent trend of acquiring development companies to bolster its internal game development capabilities, with previous acquisitions including Next Level Games, SRD Co Ltd, and Dynamo Pictures. Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has emphasized the company's commitment to enhancing its development capacity, including initiatives such as acquiring development companies and expanding its development facilities.
