Epic Games CEO Advocates for Removing AI Labels from Games
Epic Games' CEO, Tim Sweeney, has stated that platforms such as Steam should refrain from labeling games that utilize artificial intelligence. In response to a Twitter post suggesting the removal of this label, Sweeney argued that it is illogical to flag such content, given that AI will be involved in nearly all future game production. He noted that AI tagging is relevant in contexts like art exhibits and digital content licensing, but not in game stores. This stance comes after Valve's decision to allow most AI-generated games on Steam, provided developers disclose their use of the technology. Similarly, Itch.io requires developers to disclose the use of generative AI in game creation. Sweeney's comments echo those of the Nexon CEO, who emphasized the ubiquity of AI in game development. The Epic Games CEO also addressed the controversy surrounding Embark Studios' use of AI for voice lines, highlighting the speculative nature of views on AI's impact on human productivity.
