Keep Driving Takes Top Honors at DevGAMM Awards

In a significant win, Keep Driving, a unique pixel-art management RPG that revolves around a road trip to a music festival, emerged as the Grand Prize winner at the DevGAMM Awards. The award ceremony, which took place on Friday night, saw YCJY Games, the studio behind Keep Driving, receive a $20,000 cheque from a total prize pool of $135,000. The competition, open to indie developers and small studios, awarded a total of 15 games, highlighting the creativity and innovation within the indie gaming community. Among the winners were Despelote, which excelled in narrative, Promise Mascot Agency, recognized in the Epic Games Store Indie Spotlight, and Rockbeasts, which stood out for its audio excellence. Glasshouse from FLAT28 Collective garnered the Developers Choice award, while Misery from Platypus Entertainment x Ytopia secured the Community Vote. The event featured 63 nominees, carefully selected from 610 entries, demonstrating the high level of competition and quality of submissions. The awards followed a two-day conference in Lisbon, attended by 1,122 people, where over 60 speakers, including notable figures like Chris Charla from Xbox, shared insights and led workshops. The conference also showcased 80 games, providing a platform for developers to demo their work. Interestingly, the majority of attendees were from Portugal, with a significant proportion of women attending, indicating a diverse and inclusive environment. Preceding the main event was the Madeira Games Summit, a smaller, invite-only gathering for industry leaders, featuring discussions with prominent figures like Ustwo Games CEO Maria Sayans and Colossal Order CEO Mariina Hallikainen.
