Cygames Reaches Settlement with Konami in Umamusume: Pretty Derby Patent Dispute

Cygames has resolved its patent dispute with Konami Digital Entertainment regarding Umamusume: Pretty Derby. The issue began when Konami filed a lawsuit in 2023, alleging that Cygames' game infringed on 18 of its patents and seeking $26 million in damages, as well as a halt to the game's production and distribution. Cygames countered by requesting trials to invalidate all 18 patents, maintaining that no infringement occurred. According to a statement from parent company CyberAgent, Cygames chose to settle the dispute to provide long-term stability for Umamusume: Pretty Derby users. The company expressed respect for the creative efforts of game industry peers, including Konami, and aims to contribute to the industry's further growth through this settlement. The terms of the agreement are not being disclosed due to confidentiality obligations.
