Discord Enhances Family Center to Provide Parents with Deeper Insights into Teenage Activity
Discord has introduced new features to its Family Center, a platform launched in 2023 to help parents and guardians understand and engage with their teenager's Discord experience. The latest updates are designed to give guardians more tools to comprehend how their teens interact with the platform, facilitating open dialogue about their online activities. Parents can now adjust settings to control access to sensitive media, manage friend requests and direct messages, and utilize a range of data privacy options. These include monitoring purchases, voice minutes, and identifying frequently contacted users and servers. Teens are also empowered to notify their guardians about submitted requests, with full transparency about the information shared and the settings in place. However, the content of messages sent by minors remains private. According to Discord, the goal is to support guardians without requiring them to be experts in the platform, thereby ensuring teens have a voice in their digital experiences while maintaining a safe online environment. These enhancements are part of Discord's commitment to teen safety, informed by research and perspectives from teenagers themselves.
