Rockstar Denies Union-Busting Allegations, Cites Confidentiality Breaches as Reason for Dismissals
Updated on November 6, 2025: Rockstar has stated that the recent dismissals of several employees were a result of leaking confidential information, and not related to any union activities. According to a Rockstar spokesperson, "A small group of individuals were found to be sharing and discussing confidential information publicly, which is a clear violation of our company policies." The spokesperson emphasized that this action was not taken in response to employees' rights to join or participate in union activities. In response, Alex Marshall, the president of the Independent Workers' Union of Great Britain (IWGB), accused Rockstar of being "afraid of employees discussing their rights to a fairer workplace and collective voice." Marshall claimed that Rockstar's management is prioritizing anti-union efforts over the well-being of the game development process, stating that "they are targeting the very people who make the game, showing they don't care about delays to Grand Theft Auto 6." The original story, reported on November 3, 2025, alleged that Rockstar had dismissed 30 to 40 employees, many of whom were either members of the union or attempting to organize. The IWGB accused Rockstar of union busting, with Marshall calling it "the most blatant and ruthless act of union busting in the history of the games industry." Take Two, Rockstar's parent company, denied these allegations, stating that the terminations were due to gross misconduct and that they support Rockstar's approach to creating a positive work environment.
