Sega Reports 13 Million Persona 5 Series Sales Amid 16.8% Income Decline
Sega Sammy's latest fiscal report reveals a decline in net sales and operating income, despite robust performance from its video game division, driven by titles like Sonic X Shadow Generations and Metaphor: ReFantazio. The Persona 5 Royal and classic Sonic games continued to generate significant earnings. Over 75% of Sega Sammy's total sales came from its entertainment segment, with a notable 11.2% operating income margin. For the fiscal year ending March 30, 2025, net sales reached ¥428.9 billion, a 8.5% year-on-year decrease, while operating income was ¥48.1 billion, down 16.8% year-on-year. Sega is pursuing a transmedia strategy to expand high-potential IPs, including Sonic, Like a Dragon, and Persona, into movies, animation, merchandising, and events. The company aims to increase user engagement and revenue opportunities through strategic partnerships with major platform providers. Key titles' cumulative sales include Sonic Superstars at 2.43 million units, Sonic Frontiers at 4.57 million units, Persona 3 Reload at 2.07 million units, and the Persona 5 series at 13 million units. Japan remains Sega's largest market, with a 69% share, followed by North America, Europe, and Asia. The company anticipates growth in these markets by 2028 and expects to generate more income from mobile games than consoles and PC combined. Looking ahead, Sega plans to launch new releases, including Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds and Football Manager 26, and expand revenue opportunities through repeat sales, platform expansion, and subscription-based services.
