Nintendo Boosts Annual Forecast After Sales Soar 110% to $7.2 Billion in First Half
Nintendo has unveiled its financial results for the first six months, ending September 30, revealing substantial growth in both hardware and software sales driven by the launch of Switch 2. The new console achieved sales of 10.36 million units, surpassing the original Switch's performance during the same period. This led to a 110% increase in net sales and a 19.5% rise in operating profits for the first half of the fiscal year. As a result, Nintendo has revised its full-year projections upwards. Key figures for the six months ending September 30, 2025, include net sales of $7.2 billion (up 110% year-over-year), operating profit of $950 million (up 19.5%), and ordinary profit of $1.5 billion (up 60.5%). Hardware sales, including both Switch and Switch 2, reached 12.25 million units, while software sales hit 82.18 million units. The Switch 2's strong launch, with 10.36 million units sold by the end of September, contributed significantly to these figures. In comparison, the original Switch sold 4.7 million units during the same period in 2017. The higher price point of the Switch 2 was a key factor in the 110% jump in overall sales to $7.2 billion. Switch 2 software sales totaled 20.62 million units worldwide, with Mario Kart World being the top-selling title at 9.57 million units. The original Switch sold 1.89 million units during the period, with the OLED model leading at 910,000 units. Nintendo also reported that the Switch console has now sold 154 million units worldwide since its launch in 2017. However, software sales for the Switch decreased by 12.4% year-over-year to 61.56 million units. Digital sales generated $1.02 billion, down 2.8% year-over-year, due to the impact of foreign exchange rates and decreased sales of download-only software. IP-related sales dropped 12.4% to $216 million, primarily due to lower movie-related revenue. Looking ahead, Nintendo has revised its forecast for the full year, expecting net sales of $14.6 billion (up 93.1%) and operating profit of $2.4 billion (up 30.9%). The company predicts hardware sales of 19 million units for Switch 2 and software sales of 48 million units.
