Ex-MultiVersus Developers Ditch AAA Scene for Indie Venture, Airlock Games
Key figures from the now-defunct MultiVersus have established Airlock Games, an independent game development studio. Following the shutdown of MultiVersus on May 30, former directors Justin Fischer and Brock Feldman have joined forces to create their own company. The duo expressed their disillusionment with the current state of the AAA gaming industry, citing the mass layoffs and lack of innovation as major concerns. "The western AAA space has been particularly troubling in the post-pandemic era," they stated on their website. "We've witnessed large companies respond to emerging challenges by cutting tens of thousands of jobs, relying on tired IPs, and shying away from innovation. It's disheartening to see them repeat the same mistakes and expect different results. "Rather than surrendering to the next wave of corporate restructuring, we've decided to take a different path." Airlock Games' debut title, What the Stars Forgot, is set to launch in early access on Steam in December, with a Kickstarter campaign currently in progress.
