Gamescom Asia x Thailand Game Show Attracts Over 206,000 Visitors in Its Inaugural Edition

The inaugural Gamescom Asia x Thailand Game Show welcomed a staggering 206,159 attendees from 95 countries over its four-day run. Held at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok from October 16 to October 19, the event shattered previous attendance records for both Gamescom Asia and the Thailand Game Show. The merger of the two events earlier this year aimed to cement Thailand's position as a leading gaming hub in Asia, according to the organizers. The business area of Gamescom Asia x TGS hosted 5,590 industry professionals from 81 countries and featured 71 speakers across four stages. A total of 294 exhibitors and country pavilions participated, including major developers such as Bandai Namco, Capcom, HoYoverse, Konami, Sega, Ubisoft, Tencent, The Pokémon Company, and Xbox. The indie area showcased 62 titles, with over 200 playable games available across the business and entertainment areas. The Thailand Game Awards recognized Sandfall Interactive's Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 with four awards, while Bit Egg Inc.'s Lost and Found Co. received the Thai Game Award. Glen Schofield, a veteran game designer known for his work on Dead Space, Call of Duty, and The Callisto Protocol, was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award. The event organizers stated, 'This partnership celebrates creativity, innovation, and community on a global scale.' Under the theme 'World of Gaming,' the goal is to elevate games and talent in Southeast Asia to the international stage while delivering world-class experiences to local audiences, positioning Thailand as a true Global Gaming Hub. Thailand's Minister of Commerce, Suphajee Suthumpun, expressed her impression with the event, stating, 'I was deeply impressed to see both Thai and international game developers embracing the beauty of Thailand as the backdrop and characters in their games.' She added, 'This is true soft power, allowing players around the world to experience Thai identity through the world of games.' The event generated over 1.22 billion THB ($37.2 million) in economic value, reflecting Thailand's enormous potential on the global stage. Gamescom Asia x TGS is scheduled to return next year, from October 29 to November 1.
