TheGamer Faces Significant Layoffs as Valnet Cuts Entire Features Team
Valnet, the parent company of TheGamer, has made substantial cuts to its editorial team, including the entirety of the features department and several additional staff members. Although the exact number of affected staff remains unclear, former employees such as news editor Rhiannon Bevan and features lead Jade King have publicly announced their departure on social media. This move follows the acquisition of Polygon by Valnet earlier this year, which also resulted in the departure of numerous long-standing staff members. As a major digital media company operating over 27 brands, Valnet reaches a vast audience of 300 million monthly visitors and 5 billion annual sessions. Recent data reveals a significant exodus of video game journalists from the industry, with more than 1200 professionals leaving in the past two years.
