Remedy CEO Tero Virtala Exits After Nearly a Decade
Tero Virtala has relinquished his position as Remedy CEO, effective immediately. Virtala, who assumed the role in 2016, will remain with the company during a transitional period as it seeks a permanent replacement. Markus Mäki, Remedy's co-founder and chief product officer, has been named interim CEO. With over 25 years of experience on the company's board of directors and as its chairman, Mäki brings a wealth of knowledge to his new role. Concurrently, Henri Österlund will succeed Mäki as chairman of the board, having served as a board member since 2017. In a statement, Mäki expressed his gratitude to Virtala for his dedication and leadership, wishing him well in his future endeavors. This development follows Remedy's recent revision of its financial projections for 2025, citing underwhelming sales of its debut multiplayer game, FBC Firebreak. The company has recorded a non-cash impairment of €14.9 million, encompassing the game's development, publishing, and distribution costs. Initially, Remedy had anticipated growth in both revenue and operating profit but now forecasts a decline in operating profit due to Firebreak's failure to meet internal expectations.
