Recovery Underway for Major Gaming Platforms Following Widespread AWS Disruption
A global disruption caused by an Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage has begun to subside, with web-based services such as Fortnite, Roblox, and the PlayStation Network, as well as several major banking institutions, starting to regain functionality. According to AWS, its services are exhibiting substantial recovery signs following a DNS error that temporarily took down thousands of online businesses, which account for roughly a third of the internet. The outage primarily affected sites, services, and apps operating in the US East 1 Region. Following a day of outages, Epic Games has announced that the service provider issue has been resolved, and Fortnite, along with other Epic services, is now back online. However, AWS still reports its service as 'degraded.' The company's latest update indicates that efforts to address launch failures for new EC2 instances are progressing, with an increase in successful launches and a decrease in networking issues within the US-EAST-1 Region.
