2K Names Ben Brinkman as Head of 31st Union Studio
2K's subsidiary, 31st Union, has announced the appointment of Ben Brinkman as its new studio head, effective October 20, 2025. According to Variety, this development was shared with staff by 2K president David Ismailer in a memo dated October 16. Ismailer expressed his enthusiasm for Brinkman's new role, stating, "I am thrilled to welcome Ben Brinkman as the new head of 31st Union. After several months of discussion, Ben will officially join us on Monday." Brinkman brings a wealth of experience, having previously served as head of production for Apex Legends at Respawn Entertainment. His background also includes roles at 2K, Activision, Treyarch, and Electronic Arts Canada. Ismailer highlighted Brinkman's extensive experience in the PVP shooter space, noting, "Ben's leadership and expertise in this area are impressive, with 15 years of experience developing and leading renowned gaming franchises, including Call of Duty: Black Ops and Apex Legends." Brinkman succeeds former president Michael Condrey, who was let go earlier this year amidst concerns regarding Project Ethos, an online multiplayer game. At the time, 2K stated that Condrey would transition to an advisory role focusing on the future of Project Ethos. Ismailer also provided an update on Project Ethos, stating that the company's "confidence in the title grows daily." He reflected on the community feedback from the playtest last fall, saying, "The feedback was insightful, confirming the potential of a roguelike shooter but also highlighting the need for a more distinct identity. It has been inspiring to see the progress made, with the team taking the feedback to heart and reimagining Project Ethos with a renewed vision – one that is poised to deliver on its promise to our players."
