Activision Blizzard Workers in Platform and Technology Department Choose to Unionize
In a significant move, over 400 employees from Activision Blizzard's Platform and Technology division have opted to form a union under the Communications Workers of America. This decision follows the lead of other divisions within the company and is reportedly acknowledged by Microsoft. The unionization effort, led by committee members including Daniel Weltz, Alex Kohn, and Timothy Biley, aims to address concerns over low wages and job security. As Weltz emphasized, 'our culture is our people, and we can't afford to lose that.' The move is part of a broader trend within the gaming industry, where workers are organizing to improve working conditions and challenge the perception of game developers as disposable. Earlier this year, the company's story and franchise development division also unionized, joining thousands of workers at Microsoft-owned studios who have organized with the CWA. This shift towards unionization reflects a growing recognition of the importance of fair treatment and competitive offers in the workplace.
