Epic Games Introduces Web Store Service for PC and Mobile Platforms
Epic Games has unveiled its web shop service, Epic Web Shops, designed for PC and mobile devices. This service, accessible through the company's self-publishing tools, enables developers to sell in-game content directly to consumers via a dedicated storefront, leveraging Epic's global distribution network and e-commerce platform. Developers will retain 100% of their revenue up to $1 million per title, after which the revenue share will revert to the standard 88/12 split. Additionally, players will earn rewards on each purchase made through Web Shops, which can be applied to future transactions. The Web Shop feature will be listed on a developer's product page under a new 'Web Shop' tab on PC and will also facilitate out-of-app purchases. Epic Games has confirmed that mobile app product pages will natively support Web Shops within the Epic Games Store mobile app later this year. Eligible developers and publishers with registered Epic Games Developer accounts can create a Web Shop for their products, with eligible content including virtual currency and other consumable items, excluding Web3 games. Codename Entertainment has become the first developer to launch a live Web Shop for its game, Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms.
