Newzoo Report Reveals Nearly Half of Single-Player AAA Games Released Within a Three-Month Window Since 2021
A recent study by Newzoo has found that 45% of single-player AAA games released between 2021 and 2024 were launched within a narrow three-month window from August to November. The firm analyzed 155 games across PlayStation, PC, and Xbox, defining AAA games as those priced above $60 or remasters of AAA titles. The research highlights two significant release concentrations: February and March, with 23% of games released, and the August to November window, with 45% of releases. This clustering of releases may lead to increased marketing costs and reduced visibility for publishers, with the first few months after release being crucial for revenue. The study suggests that publishers should consider alternative release dates to avoid the crowded September to November window, which may result in reduced profitability and visibility.
