Embracer CEO Highlights Importance of Human Creativity in AI Adoption
According to Embracer CEO Phil Rogers, the integration of generative AI must be approached in a responsible and sustainable manner. During the company's recent Annual General Meeting, Rogers emphasized that the key to successfully leveraging AI lies in its ethical implementation, stressing that "ethics and good business go hand in hand." He noted that the use of AI is no longer a matter of if, but how it is utilized, given the escalating development costs and high player expectations in the industry. Rogers pointed out that AI has already begun to yield compelling results, with many studios experimenting with the technology to enhance productivity and eliminate bottlenecks. However, he also warned that AI requires human oversight, citing motion capture as an example where filming time can be reduced by half, but still necessitates "tuning by human hand." Rogers expressed concern that the misuse of AI could lead to generic and soulless content, emphasizing the need for a strong ethical framework to protect creative freedom, intellectual properties, and artists. He reaffirmed the company's commitment to human authorship, stating that developers will always have the final say in creative decisions. Rogers views AI as a strategic tool for driving efficiency, amplifying creativity, and delivering high-quality games, but not as a replacement for human innovation. Similarly, Testronic chief Sharon Baylay-Bell cautioned that AI should be seen as an accelerant, rather than the ultimate solution.
