Xbox Users Play a Wider Variety of Games Compared to Other Platforms
Newly released data indicates that Xbox gamers engage with a larger number of titles per month compared to users on PlayStation or Steam. In August 2025, Xbox users played an average of 5.7 different games, surpassing the averages of 4.5 for Steam and 3.7 for PlayStation, which is 38% lower than Xbox. Ampere Analysis attributes this trend to Game Pass, stating it is a significant driver of high game consumption on the platform, despite offering fewer titles than PlayStation Plus Premium. As of August 2025, Game Pass had over 500 games available, while PS Plus had nearly 1,000. The data shows that Game Pass subscribers are more active across various titles compared to PS Plus subscribers, with PlayStation users playing two fewer games per month on average. In contrast, Steam users play one game less than Xbox users per month. This highlights the role of cost in accessing games, as Game Pass encourages playing multiple titles over purchasing individual games. However, Xbox users spend less in-game time than users on other platforms, with 7.7 hours played in August compared to 12.7 and 11.9 hours on PlayStation and Steam, respectively. Despite this, the data suggests that Xbox gamers are more likely to sample games they would not have accessed otherwise.
