Nintendo Switch 2 Receives Prestigious Industry Honor at Japan Game Awards
The Nintendo Switch 2 was awarded the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award at the Japan Game Awards, which were held on September 23, 2025, in Tokyo, just before the start of the Tokyo Game Show on September 25, 2025. The award is presented by the Japanese Computer Entertainment Suppliers' Association and recognizes individuals or products that have significantly contributed to the growth of the video game industry through innovative products or the use of new technologies. The Switch 2 was chosen for its substantial contribution to the development of Japan's console gaming industry. Metaphor: ReFantazio took home the Grand Award, the highest honor of the event, beating out 10 other nominees, including Elden Ring Nightreign, Monster Hunter Wilds, and Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, which each received Awards for Excellence. Other recipients of awards included Indika, which won the Game Designers Award, Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket, which received the Movement Award, and Sandfall Interactive's Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which was given the Breakthrough Award after selling one million copies in just three days. A Special Award was also presented to the PlayStation Store.
