Borderlands 4 Switch 2 Port Delayed to Allow for Further Development and Refining
The launch of Borderlands 4 on the Nintendo Switch 2 has been put on hold, according to an announcement by Gearbox Software. Originally set to debut on October 3, the developer stated that additional time is required to refine the game and deliver the best possible experience for players. In a statement on social media, the company expressed that this decision was not made lightly and is working to align the release with the introduction of cross-saves, a feature highly anticipated by fans. As a result, digital pre-orders for the Switch 2 version will be automatically cancelled starting September 26, with customers having the option to initiate this process immediately through the Nintendo eShop. Those who have pre-ordered physical copies are advised to contact their retailers directly. The delay comes as Borderlands 4, released on September 12, has faced criticism over its performance on PC, with issues including poor optimization, frequent crashes, and subpar performance on Steam, leading to mixed user reviews. In response to these concerns, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford suggested that players adjust their game settings to optimize performance, emphasizing that achieving high frame rates, maximum features, and high resolution simultaneously may not be feasible for all hardware configurations. Despite these challenges, Borderlands 4 has attracted over 2.5 million players and generated more than $150 million in revenue, as reported by Alinea Analytics.
