Borderlands 4 Attracts Over 2.5 Million Players Following Launch

Since its launch on September 12, Borderlands 4 has drawn in more than 2.5 million players, resulting in revenue exceeding $150 million, according to data provided by Alinea Analytics to GamesIndustry.biz. This data also reveals that the game has sold over 1.3 million copies on Steam, generating more than $80 million in revenue, and has surpassed one million units sold on console. Furthermore, the game reached a peak of over 300,000 concurrent players on Steam post-launch. In terms of player demographics on Steam, the majority, over half, are from the US, followed by China, Germany, the UK, and Canada. A similar trend is observed on PlayStation, with the US accounting for the majority of players, and the UK, Germany, France, and Canada making up between 5% and 8% of the player base. Alinea Analytics also provided insights into player engagement with other titles in the franchise, noting that 59% of Steam players have played Borderlands 2, 51% have played Borderlands 3, and 22% have played Tiny Tina's Wonderlands. On PlayStation, where player choice was influenced by PS Plus inclusions, 81% of players have engaged with Borderlands 3, 64% with Borderlands: The Handsome Collection, and 50% with Tiny Tina's Wonderlands. Despite initial performance issues that have dominated the headlines, Alinea Analytics predicts this narrative will fade as the game becomes more optimized. Recently, CEO Randy Pitchford suggested via X posts that performance issues may be attributed to players' PC optimization.
