Tanglewood Games Urges Enhanced Support for UK Game Development Hubs

In a recent update, Game Republic has expressed its backing for Tanglewood Games' call to action, seeking increased support for the development of game hubs in the North and across the UK. This comes after Tanglewood Games, an Unreal Engine consultancy and development studio, partnered with Into Games for a Waypoint summit, focusing on social mobility for games businesses in the North East. The company also met with Ukie and MP for Hartlepool, Jonathan Brash, to discuss the potential for areas like Hartlepool to become game development hubs. Chris Wood, CEO of Tanglewood Games, emphasized the importance of clear pathways into the industry, including funding and collaboration with government and regional authorities to invest in local talent. Game Republic's managing director, Jamie Sefton, stated that the organization 'wholeheartedly backs' Tanglewood Games' views, highlighting the need for devolved funding and support for regional games hubs. The call for support is driven by the recognition that access to the industry is often hindered by a lack of investment and skills challenges, exacerbated by socio-economic inequality. Tanglewood Games and its partners aim to ensure that everyone, regardless of background, has a route into the industry and is supported upon entry.
