Steam Update Simplifies Discount Impact Analysis for Developers
Valve has enhanced Steam's revenue reporting system, enabling developers to better understand the financial impact of each discount they've implemented. The updated system presents the same information available in Steamworks sales and activations reports but organizes it by discount period, dating back to November 2021. This change is intended to aid developers in making informed decisions about future pricing and discount strategies. The discount history page now features a table that outlines past discounts for each package, including the number of times a discount was run, total revenue generated, revenue per day, and total units sold during the discount period. Additional details, such as revenue and traffic data for each discount period and indicators for price modifications, are also available. However, Valve notes that the revenue figures may not perfectly match those in the sales and activations reports due to differences in how purchases are accounted for. Access to this information is restricted to users with permission to manage pricing and discounts and view financial information for each game.
