Introducing the New PlayStation Parental Control Application from Sony
Sony has introduced a dedicated mobile application for parental control, known as the PlayStation Family application, compatible with both Android and iOS devices. As announced on the PlayStation Blog on September 10, 2025, this application incorporates the existing parental control features available on the PS5 and PS4 consoles, including the management of age restrictions and playtime settings, as well as several customizable features. The application sends parents real-time notifications when their child is engaged in PlayStation gaming, allowing them to approve or reject restricted games and requests for extended playtime with a single tap. Additionally, the application enables parents to establish daily playtime limits and oversee spending activities by setting a monthly spending cap for purchases made on the PlayStation Store. The application also allows parents to manage content filters and social interactions by customizing privacy settings, overseeing social features, and configuring age-appropriate content via their mobile device. Furthermore, the application offers age presets that apply recommended settings based on the child's age group. To provide a more comprehensive view of a child's activity and playtime, users of the application receive daily and weekly activity reports that can be reviewed at a glance. The PlayStation Family application is currently available for free download in most markets, although it is only compatible with iOS version 14 and Android 8 or higher. "We are thrilled to provide parents with a straightforward method to manage their children's gaming activities directly from their mobile devices," stated Cory Gasaway, Vice President of Product Management at Sony Interactive Entertainment, in the blog post. "This marks the beginning of our new mobile application, and we plan to continue enhancing the PlayStation Family application to evolve the experience over time."
