US PlayStation Sales: Grand Theft Auto 5 Takes the Top Spot
According to recent data from Circana, Grand Theft Auto 5 has secured its position as the top-selling PlayStation game of all time in the US, surpassing sales across all console generations. This revelation was shared by Mat Piscatella to commemorate PlayStation's 30th anniversary in the US, which falls on September 9, 2025. The data, compiled from January 1995 to July 2025, encompasses both physical and digital sales. Piscatella categorized the data into two lists: the top 20 games by revenue and the top 20 by units sold. Grand Theft Auto 5 emerged as the number one title in both categories, with over 215 million units sold worldwide as of May 2025. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Red Dead Redemption 2 followed closely in terms of revenue. Notably, Call of Duty titles occupy 11 of the top 20 spots for revenue and nine spots for units sold. Other franchises that made the cut include Minecraft, Guitar Hero, and Marvel's Spider-Man. However, when ranked by units sold, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare slipped to fifth place, with Minecraft, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas claiming the second, third, and fourth spots, respectively. Additional titles that made the list for units sold include Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Siege, God of War, The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, The Last of Us, and Marvel's Spider-Man. The original PlayStation console launched in North America on September 9, 1995. To celebrate its 30th anniversary, Sony is hosting special events and offering limited-edition PS5 products.
