Global Gaming Industry Unites for Environmental Sustainability at Upcoming Summit
This November, the Playing for the Planet Alliance will host a pivotal day of events, convening climate specialists, policymakers, and gaming industry leaders. The BFI Southbank will serve as the venue for the Green Game Summit on November 6, 2025, followed by the second annual Playing for the Planet Awards ceremony. The Green Game Summit, an initiative backed by the United Nations Environmental Programme, focuses on assessing progress and exploring further actions to safeguard nature and minimize carbon emissions. The awards ceremony will honor the winners of the sixth annual Green Game Jam, recognizing outstanding achievements in environmental sustainability. Key partnerships for these events include collaborations with the BFI, Bastion, and Liquid Crimson, with additional support from prominent gaming associations. According to Sam Barratt, UNEP's chief of youth and education, 'The gaming industry has made significant strides this year, with major titles engaging billions of players in environmental activism.' The event offers a platform for industry leaders to share best practices, accelerate progress, and discuss strategies for reducing emissions and promoting environmental engagement. Keir Oldfield-Lewis, BFI's head of environmental sustainability, expressed pride in the partnership, stating, 'As the UK's leading film organization, the BFI is committed to supporting a green transition in the screen industries, including the gaming sector.'
