Amazon's Tomb Raider Series to Kick Off Production in January 2026 with Sophie Turner as Lara Croft
Amazon's highly anticipated Tomb Raider series is set to commence production on January 19, 2026, with actress Sophie Turner taking on the role of Lara Croft. According to Variety, the project is being led by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who is joined by Chad Hodge, the creator of Wayward Pines. Waller-Bridge will also be responsible for writing and executive producing the series. Jonathan van Tulleken, known for his work on ShÅgun, is on board to direct and executive produce the show. Waller-Bridge expressed her excitement about the project, stating, 'I'm thrilled to announce the talented Sophie Turner as our Lara, alongside this incredible creative team.' She added, 'It's a rare opportunity to work on a project of this scale with a character you've grown up admiring. Everyone involved is deeply passionate about Lara and embodies her fearless, bold, and humorous spirit.' Turner also shared her thoughts, saying, 'I'm beyond excited to play Lara Croft, an iconic character who means a great deal to many. I'm giving it my all, and I'm aware that I have big shoes to fill, following in the footsteps of Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander, who delivered powerful performances. However, with Phoebe at the helm, I'm confident that we're in good hands.' The series was greenlit by Amazon MGM Studios in May 2024, with Crystal Dynamics, Story Kitchen, and Wells Street Productions serving as producers and executive producers.
