Report: Take-Two Interactive Held Discussions to Fund and Publish Perfect Dark Revival

According to reports, Take-Two Interactive engaged in talks to finance and publish the revamped Perfect Dark game, following the shutdown of its developer in July. Sources revealed to Bloomberg that negotiations between Take-Two and Embracer, the parent company of Crystal Dynamics, broke down, resulting in recent layoffs at Crystal Dynamics. The parties involved spent two months discussing potential partnerships but failed to reach an agreement on the long-term ownership of the Perfect Dark franchise. Representatives from Embracer, Xbox, and Take-Two declined to comment on the matter. The Perfect Dark reboot was first unveiled in 2020 as the inaugural project of The Initiative, a first-party Xbox studio established in 2018. Despite being announced three years prior, the game remained in pre-production in 2023. The developer initially collaborated with Certain Affinity before Crystal Dynamics took over as co-developer in 2021. Embracer Group acquired Crystal Dynamics, along with Eidos Montreal and Square Enix Montreal, for $300 million.
