Atari Secures $5.3 Million Thunderful Group Acquisition Following Shareholder Approval
In a significant development, Thunderful Group's shareholders have given their seal of approval for a major acquisition deal, paving the way for Atari to become the majority stakeholder in the Swedish gaming company. The agreement, which was first announced on July 29, 2025, involves Atari acquiring approximately 82% of Thunderful Group's shares for a sum of SEK 50 million, or roughly $5.3 million, prior to deducting related expenses. This strategic move was subject to shareholder approval, which was secured during an extraordinary general meeting held on August 28, 2025. As per the terms of the deal, Atari will purchase 333,333,334 shares of Thunderful Group at SEK 0.15 each, equivalent to about $0.02, with any excess amount over the share's quota value being allocated to the non-restricted share premium reserve. The share acquisition agreement was slated to be signed by August 28, 2025, with the payment for the shares to be made in cash within three banking days. This acquisition positions Atari as the majority shareholder of Thunderful Group, which boasts an impressive portfolio of development studios, including Coatsink, Early Morning Studio, Studio Fizbin, Thunderful Development, and To The Sky, alongside publishers Rising Star Games and Thunderful Publishing. Furthermore, Atari has also recently acquired the intellectual property rights to five Ubisoft titles: Cold Fear, I Am Alive, Child of Eden, Grow Home, and its sequel, Grow Up, with plans to re-release these games and explore new opportunities for expansion through updated formats, additional content, and broader distribution channels.
