Finnish Gaming Sector Generates €2.85 Billion in Revenue for 2024
The Finnish gaming industry experienced a 4.9% decline over the past two years, with a total turnover of €2.85 billion in 2024. According to the Finnish Games Industry report, the sector's operating results were €800 million in 2023 and €400 million in 2024. The report, conducted by Neogames, surveyed 71 studios employing 3,160 workers, and attributed the decline to recession, inflation, and a post-COVID slowdown. The lack of significant one-time deals and the closure of mobile studio Seriously also contributed to the decline. Despite this, Finland remained among the top five largest gaming industries in Europe by turnover in 2024. Between 2023 and 2024, 120 commercial Finnish games were released, including notable titles such as Alan Wake 2 and Cities Skylines 2. The industry also saw a shift towards multi-platform development, with 58% of developers working on games for more than one platform. The number of active studios in Finland increased to 270 by the end of 2024, with the Capital Region being home to almost half of the studios. The industry employed approximately 4,300 people by the end of 2024, with a 25% share of female employees.
