US Hardware Revenue Surges to $384 Million, Fueled by Strong Switch 2 Sales
In July, US hardware revenue experienced a 21% increase to $384 million, primarily driven by the sales of the Nintendo Switch 2, according to Circana's data. This significant rise in hardware spending marked the highest July revenue since 2008, when it reached $441 million. The Switch 2 led the charts as the best-selling hardware for the month and year-to-date, surpassing two million units sold in the US since its launch. Notably, its unit sales are 75% higher than those of the original Switch. The July charts saw four new titles in the Top Five, with Electronic Arts securing the top two spots with EA Sports College Football 26 and EA Sports MVP Bundle 2025, followed by Donkey Kong Bananza in third. The latest Switch 2 title matched the debut position of Mario Kart World in June and was the top-selling title on Nintendo's platform-specific charts. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4, developed by Iron Galaxy and published by Activision, ranked fourth. This remake in the Tony Hawk franchise also ranked among the Top Four best-selling games across individual console and PC charts. Obsidian Entertainment and Eidos-Montréal's Grounded 2 debuted at No.8 in the Top 20, while Death Stranding 2: On the Beach dropped to No.12, and Elden Ring: Nightreign fell to No.16. Video game content spending saw a 4% increase to $4.5 billion, driven by a 7% growth in mobile spending to $2.3 billion and a 21% rise in non-mobile subscriptions to $0.5 billion, offsetting a 9% decline in console spending. Consumer spending rose 5% to $5.05 billion, up from $4.1 billion in the same period last year. The Top Five mobile content consisted of Monopoly Go, Royal Match, Last War: Survival, Candy Crush Saga, and Whiteout Survival. Notably, Garena's Free Fire jumped seven places to No.6, with 'skyrocketing US revenue since last year' according to Sensor Tower's Sam Aune, who described July as an 'explosive month' for mobile, with 7% consumer spend growth over July 2024.
