Vast Majority of UK and US Gamers Affected by Cheating in Online Games

A recent study reveals that a staggering 80% of gamers in the UK and US have fallen victim to cheating while playing online games. The survey, conducted by PlaySafe ID and involving over 2000 gamers from both countries, also discovered that 42% of respondents had abandoned a game due to cheating, while 55% have either reduced or completely stopped spending money on games as a result of cheating. The study highlights the severe consequences of cheating on both gamers and game studios, with significant implications for studio revenue. Furthermore, the research found that 83% of gamers would be more inclined to play a game that guarantees a cheater-free experience, and 73% are willing to verify their identities to ensure such an experience. Additionally, 79% of those surveyed believe that cheaters should face penalties across multiple games. According to Andrew Wailes, founder and CEO of PlaySafe ID, "Cheating in video games is a serious issue that erodes player trust and directly affects developer revenues." The study suggests that gamers are not only aware of the problem but are also eager to be part of the solution, with the onus now on game studios and developers to implement robust, effective, and transparent anti-cheating measures.
