German Games Market Sees 4% Growth in First Half of 2025

Germany's gaming market experienced a 4% year-over-year increase in the first half of 2025, rebounding from a decline in revenue in 2024. According to a recent report published by the German Games Industry Association, the market's growth was driven by a surge in hardware sales and online gaming services. The report, based on data from YouGov and data.ai, revealed that the industry generated €4.6 billion ($5.4 billion) in revenue during the first half of 2025, marking a 4% increase from the same period in 2024. Hardware sales saw the largest revenue increase, propelled by the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, while online gaming services continued to grow, with a 4% year-over-year increase. However, game revenue declined by 2% year-over-year to €2.7 billion ($5.5 billion), although this decline was less severe than the 4% drop seen in 2024. The report also highlighted that two-thirds of Germans view games as a major form of entertainment, and one-quarter are interested in gaming handhelds. The growth of the German gaming market is expected to drive further expansion in the industry, with the upcoming gamescom event set to feature a record number of exhibitors and top companies.
