Bithell Games Undergoes Restructuring, Reduces Full-Time Staff
Bithell Games has confirmed that a significant portion of its full-time staff has been let go due to the company's inability to secure funding for an upcoming large-scale project. In a statement, studio founder Mike Bithell explained that the decision was made after it became apparent that the studio was not exempt from the funding challenges many game developers face. The layoffs affect eleven roles, but the studio has provided severance packages to support the transition. Bithell emphasized that the redundancies will not impact the availability or support of the studio's existing self-published games. The move comes after the release of the studio's latest game, with Bithell noting that the team had been aware of the challenges ahead of time. One of the affected employees, senior animator Rich Stubbs, expressed his gratitude for the experience of working at Bithell Games, particularly on high-profile projects like a Disney title. The studio, founded in 2013, is known for its work on titles such as Thomas Was Alone, Tron: Identity, and John Wick: Hex.
