Blizzard's Diablo General Manager Rod Fergusson Announces His Exit

Rod Fergusson, the general manager of Diablo, has revealed his decision to leave Blizzard. Fergusson shared the news through social media, stating, "It's time for me to move on from Blizzard/Microsoft and see what the future holds." "Following five years of pushing the Diablo franchise forward with four significant launches, I've decided it's time for me to step away from Blizzard/Microsoft, armed with experience, and look towards the next chapter," "The teams are well-prepared for continued success, with a slate of exciting releases on the horizon. I'm extremely proud of what we've accomplished together and look forward to the future of Diablo and my own journey." Executives from Microsoft and Blizzard, including Blizzard president Johanna Faries and Xbox head Phil Spencer, responded to the news. Blizzard confirmed the news to IGN but did not provide further details on who will succeed Fergusson. Fergusson joined Blizzard in 2020, shortly after the announcement of Diablo 4. He is renowned for his work on the Gears of War franchise, having been involved in every title since its inception in 2006. Prior to joining Blizzard, Fergusson was the head of The Coalition, a studio founded in 2010 as Zipline Studios. After Microsoft acquired the Gears of War franchise in 2014, the studio, then known as Black Tusk Studios, was renamed The Coalition. When Fergusson left The Coalition to join Blizzard, Xbox's Matt Booty told GamesIndustry.biz that Fergusson was "someone who has had a profound impact on the [Gears of War] franchise."
