Digital Foundry Regains Independence

Digital Foundry has made the announcement that it will be severing ties with IGN Entertainment to embark on an independent path. In a recent podcast episode, Richard Leadbetter, the publication's founder and editor, revealed that he, along with Eurogamer founder Rupert Loman-West, acquired approximately half of the company's outstanding shares after receiving an offer from IGN. Leadbetter stated, "Digital Foundry has severed ties with IGN, and we have purchased their stake in the business. This means that from this point forward, all decisions regarding Digital Foundry will be made by Digital Foundry itself. The publication will now operate independently, relying on funding from its Patreon supporters. IGN Entertainment had previously acquired Digital Foundry as part of its purchase of Gamer Network's digital brand portfolio in May 2024. Yael Prough, president of IGN Entertainment, expressed admiration for Digital Foundry, saying, "We have immense respect for the Digital Foundry brand and are incredibly proud of the exceptional work they have produced over the years, including their time with IGN Entertainment. Richard Leadbetter and his team have created something extraordinary, and we are excited to see them return to their independent roots.
