Sony Announces Marathon Release Plans Following Delay
Following an indefinite delay, Sony has provided an update on the release of Marathon, stating it expects the game to launch within the current fiscal year. During a recent earnings call, Sony's CFO Lin Tao confirmed that while the company anticipates the game's release, it is not a definitive commitment. Tao noted that based on the game's progress, a launch announcement is expected in the autumn. The company also addressed concerns regarding its live services division, particularly after the failure of Concord last year. Bungie, the developer behind Destiny and Marathon, is becoming increasingly integrated into PlayStation Studios, with plans for the studio to become a more integral part of the PlayStation family. Tao acknowledged that the transition has not been entirely smooth but emphasized the company's commitment to learning from its mistakes and introducing live service content in a more efficient manner. The update comes as Sony reported a significant boost in operating income for its Games and Network Services segment, driven by increased sales of non-first-party software titles, DLC, and network services.
