Konami's Stock Reaches All-Time High Due to eFootball and New Momotaro Dentetsu Game
Konami's stock has soared to unprecedented heights following the announcement of a new Momotaro Dentetsu game and the impressive performance of its eFootball series. According to a report by GameBiz, translated by Automaton, the Momotaro Dentetsu series, which was launched in December 1988, is one of Konami's most successful IPs, with total sales of 18.9 million, nearly twice that of the company's horror franchise, Silent Hill, which has sold 11.7 million copies since its debut in March 1999. The Momotaro Dentetsu series is a long-running Japanese video game franchise that resembles a Monopoly-like board game, where players travel by various modes of transportation to acquire properties while avoiding the 'God of Poverty.' Despite its name, the upcoming release will be the twenty-fifth installment in the franchise, excluding numerous mobile spin-offs. Konami is not the only Japanese publisher experiencing strong stock performances, as reported by GameBiz, with other major players like Nintendo, Bandai Namco Holdings, Sega Sammy Holdings, Square Enix Holdings, Capcom, and Koei Tecmo Holdings also seeing significant gains, while Sony Group's stock has taken a hit. In February, Konami released its financial results for the nine months ending December 31, 2024, which showed a 22% increase in revenue to ¥310.8 billion and a 38% rise in profits to ¥87.1 billion. As a result, Konami has revised its forecasts for the current financial year, with expected full-year revenues increasing from ¥380 billion ($2.4 billion) to ¥412 billion ($2.6 billion), representing a 14.3% increase.
