28 University Students Receive ESA Foundation Scholarships
The ESA Foundation has presented scholarships to 28 university students who are pursuing careers in the video game industry. This scholarship program is designed to assist students from underrepresented groups in the gaming sector. Two types of scholarships were offered this year: the Computer and Video Games Arts and Sciences Scholarship and the Esports Scholarship. Out of 125 applicants, 28 students were chosen to receive scholarships ranging from $5,000 to $10,000 to aid in their academic and professional pursuits. The scholarships were made possible by the proceeds from the ESA Foundation's annual Nite to Unite fundraiser, which took place in San Francisco. In addition to financial support, the scholars will have access to exclusive career development opportunities and networking events, including attendance at next year's Nite to Unite fundraiser. According to Anisa Ozalp, one of the scholars, "The ESA Foundation Scholarship provides more than just financial assistance; it connects you to a community of passionate individuals who are dedicated to shaping the future of the gaming industry." The scholarship offers a chance for artists, designers, developers, and storytellers from underrepresented backgrounds to be recognized and supported. Since its inception in 2000, the ESA Foundation has awarded over 475 scholarships and raised more than $24 million to support educational and community programs for the video game industry's future leaders. "We believe in investing in the future of the industry by supporting students who will help shape the world of play," said Sue Madden, executive director of the ESA Foundation. "This scholarship provides critical financial support and opens doors for these scholars to build meaningful connections and grow their careers. We are proud to welcome the 2025 cohort and grateful to our Nite to Unite partners who make this work possible."
