Nintendo Forces Japanese Charity to Remove Its Games from Event

A Japanese charity speedrunning event, RTA in Japan, has been prohibited by Nintendo from showcasing the company's titles. According to a statement released by the non-profit organization, Nintendo stipulated that as a registered entity, RTA in Japan must obtain prior permission to feature its games. The company also stated that any previous use of its titles was unauthorized. This development occurred after RTA in Japan gained legal entity status in 2020. The warning was initially issued in June, prompting the event organizers to exclude Nintendo titles from their upcoming charity event, scheduled to take place from August 9 to August 15. The event aims to raise funds for the international humanitarian organization, Doctors Without Borders. Moving forward, RTA in Japan will need to secure individual permissions for each Nintendo title they wish to feature, with negotiations with Nintendo already underway.
