Nintendo Switch 2 Sees Impressive Q1 2025 Sales with 5.82 Million Units Sold
Nintendo has unveiled its financial results for the quarter ending June 30, 2025, highlighting the sales performance of the Switch 2 hardware and software. Key financial figures for the quarter include: net sales of ¥572 billion ($3.8 billion), representing a 132% year-over-year increase; operating profit of ¥56.8 billion ($377 million), up 4.4% year-over-year; ordinary profit of ¥95.8 billion ($636 million), down 15.6% year-over-year; and profit attributable to owners of the parent company of ¥96 billion ($638 million), up 18.6% year-over-year. The Switch 2, confirmed as the fastest-selling console in US history, has seen a strong start, with 3.5 million units sold in its first four days, described by Nintendo as the highest-ever global sales level for any of its dedicated video game platforms. Total unit sales for the Switch 2 in the first quarter reached 5.82 million, while the original Nintendo Switch sold 0.98 million units. Demand for the Switch 2 has surpassed expectations, leading the company to increase production. First-party software sales for the Switch 2 were successful, with the launch title Mario Kart World selling 5.63 million units. The company aims to maintain the momentum of Mario Kart World and release upcoming titles such as Pokémon Legends: Z-A to maximize software sales. Nintendo's digital sales decreased by 13.5% year-over-year, mainly due to a decline in sales of downloadable versions of packaged software for the Nintendo Switch. The company's IP-related business sales also dropped 4.4% year-over-year, primarily due to a decrease in movie-related revenue. Despite this, Nintendo expects a significant spike in sales in 2027 with the release of The Legend of Zelda movie. The company has not revised its financial forecast for the remainder of the fiscal year, which predicts a 63.1% increase in sales by the end of March 2026.
