Capcom Sees Substantial Growth in Q1 2025, Driven by Classic Game Sales
Capcom has announced its Q1 2025 financial results, showcasing notable increases in net sales and income, alongside a rise in unit sales for both new and back-catalogue games. The company considers these results a strong foundation for achieving its annual objectives. For the quarter ending June 30, 2025, key figures include: net sales of ¥45.5 billion ($303 million), representing a 53.7% year-on-year increase; operating profit of ¥24.6 billion ($164 million), up 90.8% year-on-year; ordinary profit of ¥22.9 billion ($153 million), rising 69.7% year-on-year; and net income of ¥17.2 billion ($115 million), increasing 72.8% year-on-year. The surge in game sales and profits can be attributed to the successful strategy of releasing existing titles on new platforms and bolstering sales of back-catalogue titles, particularly those from popular franchises. This approach led to total unit sales of 14.16 million across 243 titles, marking a 67% year-on-year increase. Back-catalogue sales were primarily driven by renowned IPs, with Devil May Cry 5 selling 1.78 million units, Resident Evil Village selling 923,000 units, Resident Evil 4 selling 706,000 units, and Street Fighter 6 selling 538,000 units. The growth in Devil May Cry 5 sales is partly attributed to the release of the Netflix series, while the increased interest in Resident Evil games stems from the announcement of Resident Evil Requiem. Capcom aimed to enhance its IPs' brand value by coordinating content with esports, film, television productions, and licensing activities, resulting in a 69% increase in back-catalogue title sales to 13.36 million units. The launch of Street Fighter 6 on Nintendo Switch 2 and Capcom's esports efforts likely contributed to its sales boost, with the game now reaching 5 million units sold. Monster Hunter Wilds saw softer sales, with 477,000 units sold in Q1 2025, compared to Monster Hunter Rise's 389,000 units. The total unit sales for Monster Hunter Wilds stand at 10.6 million, while Monster Hunter Rise has sold 17.6 million units. Capcom's leading franchises have sold significant units, with Resident Evil at the forefront with 174 million units, followed by Monster Hunter with 122 million units, and Street Fighter with 57 million units.
