Developer of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants Unleashed Faces Closure, Turns to Union

The Spanish game development studio Aheartfulofgames, responsible for creating Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants Unleashed, is facing closure after its owner, Outright Games, indicated plans to lay off all 28 employees. According to a statement from Aheartfulofgames, supported by the CSVI game workers union, this decision would result in the permanent closure of the studio and the loss of employment for its entire team. Outright Games, a UK-based publisher known for family-friendly licensed titles, acquired Aheartfulofgames in 2022. Prior to the acquisition, the Spanish studio had developed games such as DreamWorks Dragons: Legends of The Nine Realms and DreamWorks Spirit: Lucky's Big Adventure. Following the acquisition, Aheartfulofgames delivered Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants Unleashed on schedule and without production issues, meeting the commercial expectations set by Outright. However, after starting development on a new project in August 2024 and another in February 2025, the studio was informed that both projects would not move forward without explanation. The statement claims that a change in leadership at Outright led to a focus on low-cost, fast-turnaround projects, and despite the studio's operational capacity to take on additional work, Outright chose to outsource development to third parties. Aheartfulofgames argues that there is no operational or economic justification for the decision to close the studio and eliminate 28 jobs without exploring alternative options. In response to the situation, the team at Aheartfulofgames has formed a union section with the support of the Video Game Union Coordination (CSVI) to defend their rights and advocate for workplace dignity. Outright Games has confirmed that a formal consultation process regarding the proposed closure of Aheartfulofgames is underway, acknowledging the difficulty of the situation and the impact on the affected employees.
