1047 Games Puts Splitgate 2 Back in Beta, Announces Further Layoffs
In a recent announcement, 1047 Games revealed that its free-to-play FPS Splitgate 2 is being reverted to a beta state due to player feedback. The studio's co-founders, Ian Proulx and Nicholas Bagamian, acknowledged that the game was released prematurely and that they had overestimated their capabilities. As a result, the game will undergo significant changes, including a reworked progression system, additional portals in maps, simplified monetization, and a focus on classic game modes. The studio aims to develop the game in collaboration with the community, with a strong emphasis on player feedback and playtesting. Unfortunately, this decision has led to another round of layoffs, just a month after the previous one, in order to allocate resources to the game's rework. The original Splitgate's servers will also be shut down next month to retain as many team members as possible, although the developer plans to release Splitgate 2's Chapter 3 as scheduled.
