UK Games Fund Predicted to Yield £30-58 Million in Productivity Gains

A newly released report indicates that the UK Games Fund is anticipated to generate significant productivity benefits for the UK economy, ranging from £30 million to £58 million. This forecast is based on an independent evaluation commissioned by Alma Economics, which assessed the economic impact and effectiveness of the UK Games Fund, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting early-stage game development in the UK. The report reveals that the current three-year funding cycle of the UK Games Fund could yield substantial productivity gains due to increased salaries for video game developers who receive support. With a benefit-cost ratio estimated between 3.8 and 7.3, the report highlights the positive economic impact of the fund. Furthermore, the evaluation found that the UK Games Fund has contributed to job creation in the UK video game industry, with an estimated 430 new full-time equivalent jobs expected to be generated. The fund's effectiveness is also evident in its ability to foster the creation of reusable assets and code, with each additional £10,000 of funding correlating with a notable increase in these outcomes. Recent funding awards, including a record-breaking £5.5 million grant, have enabled the UK Games Fund to expand its support for British game development, aligning with the UK Government's efforts to drive growth in the creative industries through initiatives such as the new UK Video Games Council and a £30 million Games Growth package.
